Dental caries, commonly known as cavities, can have a significant impact on a person’s ability to speak and articulate. For children, this may impact their ability to learn and fully develop. We hope to make a difference.

3 Common Types of Caries

Pit and Fissure

Occur on the biting surfaces of the teeth where plaque can accumulate and are difficult to clean

Smooth Surface

Develop on the smooth surfaces of the teeth where plaque can accumulate and are easier to clean

Root Caries

Occur on the exposed roots of teeth, usually due to gum recession or enamel erosion

Dental Caries & Speech Impacts

Cavities can cause pain and discomfort in the affected tooth, which can make it difficult for a person to speak clearly. This can be especially problematic if the affected tooth is in the front of the mouth, as it can affect the pronunciation of certain sounds.

Furthermore, if cavities are left untreated, they can lead to more serious dental problems such as tooth decay and even tooth loss. This can further impact a person’s ability to speak and articulate, as missing teeth can cause changes in the way the mouth and tongue move during speech.

Therefore, it is important to maintain good oral hygiene and address any dental problems promptly to avoid potential speech and language difficulties.
